The Ouzelum bird is a wolf-sized bird with white feathers, purple-blue claws and beak, and four wings, two of which are actually its legs. Ouzelum birds are apparently quite rare, with the only example of one in the entire comic being David Haywood. They seem to have a generally eccentric "try anything once" mood, although this may only be the case with David in particular. Ouzelum birds are also known for their unique flight pattern, typically flying backwards. This has been attributed to their concern of not where they are going, but rather where they have been.
